Rita Duah, the CEO and founder of Balloons GH, isn’t your typical entrepreneur. She saw a gap in the market for something as seemingly simple as balloons and turned it into a thriving business.
Rita’s journey began with a personal frustration. Planning a birthday celebration, she struggled to find a company that offered balloons at a reasonable price. This experience sparked an idea: balloons, often overlooked as a serious business venture, held untapped potential. After conducting market research, Rita confirmed her hunch – there was a demand for high-quality balloons in Ghana.
Balloons GH launched in 2013, offering balloons for birthday parties and various occasions. The company has grown alongside the industry itself. Today, customization is king. Want your face printed on a balloon for your birthday? Balloons GH can do it. But latex balloons, perfect for any party or event, remain their bestseller.
The road to success wasn’t without its bumps. Rita readily admits challenges like navigating import regulations, tax complexities, and managing worker expectations. Then came the curveball of COVID-19. With a major import just delivered and the world shutting down, Rita had to pivot. She began by creating balloon arrangements at home and showcasing them on Instagram. An order from a follower who shared the pictures on their own page opened a new door – balloon decorations in clients’ homes.
Rita’s secret to long-lasting balloons? Dipping them in powder to prevent them from sticking together in the heat. Her message to other aspiring female entrepreneurs is simple: never give up on your dreams.
Balloon GH also offers training to people who want to get into the balloon decoration business.
Balloons GH’s story is an inspiring example of turning an everyday item into a successful business. With a keen eye for market trends and the ability to adapt to challenges, Rita Duah has transformed Ghana’s party scene, one balloon at a time.
