Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have once again shown why they are the undisputed queens of African basketball. With their recent victory over Mali in the finals of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket, D’Tigress have now claimed five consecutive titles—a feat never before achieved by any team on the continent.
The final game, held on the closing day of the tournament, was anything but easy. Unlike earlier matches where Nigeria dominated from start to finish, Mali pushed them to the limit, ending the first half tied at 41–41. But as champions do, D’Tigress dug deep. With fierce defense, experience, and superior team depth, they surged ahead in the second half to secure a 78–64 win and add another gold medal to their trophy cabinet.
This latest victory marks an incredible 29-game unbeaten streak for Nigeria in AfroBasket, a run that dates back to 2015. The team’s titles in 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023, and now 2025 highlight a decade of dominance, consistency, and elite performance.
Under the guidance of coach Rena Wakama, the team continues to set new standards for women’s sports on the continent. Their legacy is not just about the trophies—they are inspiring a new generation of African girls to dream big, train hard, and break barriers.
D’Tigress are not just winning games—they are rewriting the history of African women’s basketball.
