Ghana – She Opened A Dance School For Kids

Vivian Boateng , the founder and CEO of Vivies Dance and Theatre Academy, is a trailblazer in Ghana’s creative arts scene. Her journey began in 2012 when she started teaching ballet in Ghana after studying Theatre Arts at the University of Ghana. In 2016, she took a leap of faith and established Vivies Dance and Theatre Academy, driven by her passion for empowering children through dance.

Vivian’s, vision for Vivies Dance and Theatre Academy is not just about teaching dance steps; it’s about providing a creative space where children can express their talents and develop them to a professional level. She believes that the creative arts are a powerful tool for building discipline, empathy, confidence, and self-expression in children. According to Vivian, “Children learn through play, and that is what the creative arts do.”

One of Vivian’s key motivations for starting Vivies Dance and Theatre Academy was the lack of professional training opportunities for children in Ghana’s creative arts sector. She emphasizes the importance of starting early so that by the time children reach university, they have a clear vision of their career path within the creative arts.

However, Vivian faced several challenges when starting her business. Finding an affordable space to run a studio and obtaining certifications as a ballet instructor were initial hurdles. She also highlighted the difficulty in sourcing the right human resources and securing funding and support from industry players. Despite these challenges, Vivian remains steadfast in her belief in the potential of the creative arts to transform economies if given the attention it deserves.

Vivies Dance and Theatre Academy caters to children aged 18 months to 17 years old, as well as adults, fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment. The recognition of their talent came when they were invited to perform at the Millennium Excellence Award in 2021, showcasing the impact of Vivian’s vision.

Looking ahead, Vivian envisions taking Vivies Dance and Theatre Academy international and establishing a presence in every African country. Her dedication to nurturing talents and advocating for the creative arts as a vital component of education and economic development continues to inspire both her students and the broader community. Vivian Boateng story is a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and the transformative potential of the arts.
