The best of African women’s volleyball has taken over Nairobi, Kenya, with national teams battling for the continental title at the 2026 CAVB Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship.
The tournament has produced dominant performances, dramatic five-set battles and some surprising results, with the competition now down to four teams.

Group Stage Results
Pool A
Kenya 3–0 Zambia
25–14, 25–9, 25–11
The defending champions made a powerful start to their title defence, sweeping Zambia without dropping a set.
Kenya 3–0 Mali
25–17, 25–10, 25–18
Kenya followed up with another straight-set victory to finish top of Pool A with six points.
Zambia 3–1 Mali
Zambia recovered from their defeat to Kenya by beating Mali and securing second place in the pool.

Egypt 3–0 Burkina Faso

Egypt began their campaign in emphatic fashion.
Uganda 3–0 Senegal

Uganda also opened with a convincing straight-set victory.

Egypt continued their dominant run by sweeping Senegal.

Uganda secured another straight-set victory before facing Egypt in their final group match.

Cameroon immediately showed why they were considered one of the tournament favourites.

Nigeria won the opening set but Tunisia fought back to take the match 3–1.

Nigeria bounced back by defeating Ghana in a five-set West African battle.

Cameroon completed another straight-set victory and finished the pool unbeaten.

One of the most exciting matches of the group stage saw Ghana come from behind to defeat Tunisia in five sets.

Rwanda 3–0 Algeria

Rwanda opened their campaign with a straight-set victory.

Rwanda continued their unbeaten run.

Rwanda completed a perfect group stage without dropping a set.

The knockout stage brought even more pressure, with teams fighting for places in the quarterfinals.

The quarterfinals produced four teams that would advance to the last four.

Ghana managed to take the second set, but Rwanda recovered to win the next two and book their place in the semifinals.

Egypt continued their remarkable run with another straight-set victory.
Cameroon 3–0 Uganda
25–18, 25–20, 25–18
Cameroon eliminated Uganda without dropping a set.
Kenya 3–1 Algeria
21–25, 25–7, 25–15, 25–18
Kenya suffered an early scare after losing the first set, but the defending champions responded emphatically, winning the next three sets.

The first semifinal between Egypt and Rwanda has already been played.
Egypt 3–0 Rwanda

Despite the straight-set scoreline, Rwanda pushed Egypt particularly hard in the third set, which went all the way to 32–30. Egypt therefore became the first team to book its place in the final.
The other semifinal is Kenya vs Cameroon, with the winner joining Egypt in Friday’s final.

A tournament worth watching
The championship has already shown just how much talent exists in African women’s volleyball.
Kenya are chasing a record-extending 11th continental title, while Egypt are looking to go one step further after finishing runners-up in 2023. Cameroon and Rwanda have also demonstrated that they are capable of challenging the continent’s traditional powers.
For Kenya in particular, the pressure is enormous. They are defending their title at home, and after beating Algeria in four sets, they now face Cameroon with a place in the final at stake.
The final is now within sight—but one more big battle stands between Kenya and another African title.
