Nigeria – Inside the 2026 JCI Lagos Metropolitan Leadership Series

The 2026 Leadership Series of JCI Lagos Metropolitan officially commenced with a powerful virtual opening ceremony that convened distinguished leaders, partners, and young changemakers from across Nigeria and around the world.

Held in honour of its founder, Otunba Bola Adewunmi, the flagship OBA Leadership Summit was hosted alongside the International Women’s Day celebration and The Outstanding Young Persons (TOYP) programme under a compelling theme:

Influence, Equity, and Excellence: The Architecture of Impact.

From the outset, it was clear this was not just another calendar event it was a strategic call to leadership.


A President’s Vision: Setting the Tone

In her opening remarks, the President of JCI Lagos Metropolitan, Kikelomo Owoyale, welcomed guests with gratitude and clarity of purpose.

She described the moment as a defining milestone in the 2026 Administrative Year, noting that the OBA Leadership Summit carries deep personal significance for her.

“It was the very first project I handled in JCI Lagos Metropolitan, and I am particularly honored to be hosting it this year as the President of the chapter.”

She outlined three pillars that will guide the year:

  • Influence — Honouring the legacy of the founder and leaders whose contributions have shaped Nigeria and Africa.
  • Equity — Supporting and empowering women and girls while taking deliberate steps to bridge gender gaps.
  • Excellence — Recognizing young individuals breaking barriers across economic, political, and social sectors.

Her message was unmistakable: this Leadership Series is not symbolic — it is strategic.

A major highlight of the summit was the keynote address delivered by the 2026 JCI President, Alejandra Castillo.

She reinforced JCI’s global mandate: Lead. Connect. Evolve.

Her charge to members was direct and profound:

  • Leadership must transcend titles.
  • Connection is the true strength of the JCI network.
  • Evolution is personal growth beyond positions and ranks.

In a powerful acknowledgment, she noted that Africa and the Middle East region is currently leading in growth and innovation within the global JCI structure further affirming Lagos Metropolitan’s role as a pace-setter.

Also present was Abdullahi Attahiru, JCI Executive Vice President, whose presence underscored the global significance of the summit.

The summit paid tribute to the enduring legacy of Otunba Bola Adewunmi, whose pioneering efforts established JCI Lagos Metropolitan as the first local organization in Africa.

As reiterated in the closing remarks:

“Today, we have proven that impact is not limited by geography. JCI Lagos Metropolitan remains the first local organisation in Africa, and we have continued to set the pace and raise the bar for excellence.”

The President extended heartfelt appreciation to Past Presidents whose sacrifices laid the foundation for current achievements, as well as to partners, speakers, and global leaders whose presence strengthened the summit’s impact.


Declaring the Summit Open

In a symbolic and inspiring conclusion, President Kikelomo Owoyale officially declared:

“With that, it is my honour to officially declare the Otunba Bolaji Adewunmi Leadership Summit and International Women’s Day Celebration open. Let the conversations begin, let the connections grow, and let the impact be felt.”
