Sharon Ademefun is a woman who has built a life at the intersection of family, entrepreneurship, creativity and business. While many people may know her as the sister of Afrobeats superstar Davido, Sharon’s story extends far beyond her famous family connection.

A mother of three, entrepreneur and business executive, Ademefun has created her own identity through ventures in the beauty and fashion industries while also playing a significant role in her brother’s business operations.

Speaking about her personal philosophy, Sharon believes that women should have the freedom to define their own lives and relationships. Discussing marriage and relationships, she noted that people’s expectations are shaped by their upbringing and personal experiences, making relationships deeply individual.

From the United States to Nigeria

Sharon was born in the United States and spent much of her formative years between the US and the UK. After completing her master’s degree, however, she made the decision to move to Nigeria in 2008, where her father had significant business interests.

What began as a move to try something different eventually became a long-term home.

Today, Sharon lives in Nigeria with her three children — Sawyer, 12, Cameron, 11, and Zoe, 7. She describes her decision to return to Nigeria as one of the best decisions she has made.

Turning Frustration into a Business

One of Sharon’s entrepreneurial journeys began unexpectedly.

She learnt how to make wigs largely because she was frustrated by the difficulty of finding good wig makers and hairstylists who were available when she needed them. At the time, online tutorials on wig-making were far less common than they are today.

While heavily pregnant, Sharon decided to teach herself.

She bought the necessary materials from a beauty shop and began experimenting. What started as a personal solution gradually attracted the attention of her friends, who began asking her to make wigs for them.

For Sharon, the experience reinforced a belief that some businesses are discovered rather than carefully planned.

Her interest eventually developed into a serious passion. She began travelling for training, seeking out people she considered experts in wig-making and learning from them. Her determination was so strong that shortly after giving birth to her second child, she registered for a wig-making training programme and attended with the support of her family.

Bringing Business Structure to Davido’s Career

Sharon’s entrepreneurial experience has also played a role in her relationship with her brother, Davido.

She has been involved in his career and management from its early stages and eventually took on a more formal financial role as CFO.

According to Sharon, looking after her younger brother was something she had done from childhood. As his career developed, their working relationship naturally evolved, with Sharon bringing her business experience and perspective to his operations.

She described the role as an opportunity to use what she had learnt in business to help bring greater structure to her brother’s business affairs.

The sibling relationship also comes with its share of disagreements. Sharon admitted that because she is comfortable telling Davido things others may not tell him, the two have had their moments of conflict.

But beneath the disagreements is a long-standing relationship built on family, trust and years of working together.

Growing Up in a Business Family

Despite being born into a wealthy and prominent family, Sharon says her upbringing was different from the lifestyle many people may imagine today.

She spent much of her childhood in boarding school in the UK and describes herself and her siblings as independent people who each developed their own lives while remaining close as a family.

Her upbringing also helped shape her understanding of business and independence.

Her father, she explained, has always been a businessman and serial entrepreneur. As Sharon has developed into an entrepreneur herself, she says she now understands why business can sometimes receive the same attention and emotional investment as a child.

Family remains important to Sharon, particularly as the next generation grows. She spoke warmly about her father’s relationship with his grandchildren, describing him as very hands-on with her children.

A Marriage Built on Communication and Support

Sharon has been married since 2013, and she credits communication and mutual support as important elements of her marriage.

From the beginning, she says she was clear with her husband about the kind of person she was and the kind of marriage she wanted.

She describes herself as someone who values independence and does not necessarily fit traditional expectations. Her husband, she says, has supported her ambitions and business commitments, including the frequent travel that comes with her work.

For Sharon, that support makes a significant difference.

When business requires her to travel internationally, having a partner who can support her with the children without making her feel guilty about her work gives her the peace of mind to remain creative and productive.

Challenging Assumptions About Family Wealth

Being part of a wealthy family can come with assumptions about unlimited access to money. Sharon offered a different perspective.

She explained that wealth within a family still comes with structures, expectations and responsibilities. Being born into wealth does not necessarily mean having unlimited access to cash.

In her family, she said, education, properties and other forms of support may provide a foundation, but individuals are still expected to build something of their own.

For Sharon, planning, budgeting and strategy remain important regardless of one’s financial background.

Body Politics: Creating Clothes for Real Women

Sharon’s latest entrepreneurial venture came from another personal frustration.

As a tall woman with a fuller figure, she found it difficult to find clothing that offered the balance she wanted — clothes that were neither excessively revealing nor overly conservative.

That experience inspired the creation of Body Politics, a clothing line designed around flexibility and different women’s body shapes.

The brand offers clothing in sizes ranging from XXS to 5XL, with stretch incorporated into its designs. Its range includes exercise clothing and other versatile pieces.
