Pearl Naheema Hanson, the CEO of AA Food and Beverages Ghana, is the visionary behind the popular Sahara Solace drink. After returning to Ghana from the UK in 2016, Pearl, who studied Chemistry at the University of Manchester, founded AA Food and Beverages. Her journey into the distilling industry was driven by a curiosity about the science behind distilled drinks. Leveraging her chemistry background, she conducted research and acquired essential equipment, ultimately creating a unique 23% alcohol drink.
In an interview with Just4WomenAfrica, Pearl explained her decision to start a beverage company in Ghana. Her interest in the chemistry of distilled drinks fueled her entrepreneurial spirit. Despite the competitive nature of the herbal drink market in Ghana, Pearl chose to carve out a niche by offering a distinct alternative. She acknowledged the challenge of persuading consumers to try something new but believed that the unique taste of Sahara Solace would leave a lasting impression.
Pearl’s target market for Sahara Solace includes women above the age of 18 and middle-income earners. She emphasizes that all manufacturing processes are carried out in Ghana, with the exception of the bottles, which are imported due to the lack of local glass bottle production.
Since its inception in 2021, AA Food and Beverages has achieved significant recognition. The company won the Beverage Award of the Year in both 2022 and 2023, highlighting the quality and appeal of Sahara Solace.
Balancing work and family is a challenge many entrepreneurs face, and Pearl is no exception. She attributes her success to effective time management and planning. She also credits the unwavering support of her family and friends for helping her navigate the demands of running a business.
Pearl Naheema Hanson’s story is one of innovation, determination, and support. Her success with AA Food and Beverages Ghana serves as an inspiration to aspiring entrepreneurs, demonstrating the power of curiosity and the importance of a strong support system.
