Binta Ata, originally from Guinea Conakry, relocated to Ghana two decades ago. In 2008, she founded her office furniture company, which has now been thriving for over 14 years. In 2021, she expanded her entrepreneurial endeavors by establishing the Mix Design Hub and the Mix Restaurant. Binta pursued her studies in Space Planning and Interior Design in France.
Her journey began modestly, with just 20 meters of office space and a single staff member. However, through gradual growth and dedication, her company has evolved into a comprehensive office solutions provider, catering to corporate entities such as banks, law firms, financial institutions, both local and international.
Despite her success in the office furniture industry, Binta felt a persistent urge to explore further business opportunities that had been brewing within her over the years. This led to the inception of the Mix. The name “themix” was carefully crafted through brainstorming sessions with her husband and friends, symbolizing the fusion of her various passions into a unified concept.
Binta’s lifelong passion for interior design, manifested in her constant home rearrangements, drove her to fill a gap in the market for quality interior design products in Ghana. She observed a significant evolution in interior design trends over the past 14 years, with more African entrepreneurs emerging to address the demand for locally sourced items.
As a woman in a male-dominated industry, Binta encountered challenges, including skepticism from clients and difficulties in recruiting competent staff and securing affordable office space. However, she overcame these obstacles through hard work, confidence in her abilities, and a focus on delivering results.
When asked about her plans for the future, Binta expressed her faith in God and her belief in the potential for further growth and achievement. She encourages women to embrace their uniqueness, focus on personal development, and prioritize understanding their businesses before venturing into entrepreneurship. She emphasizes the importance of confidence, authenticity, and collaboration among women in business.
